Pulpit to the Pew

Congratulations to all those who have been elected to serve the church in some capacity. We pray that God will bless our collective efforts, that souls will be saved and lives changed for the cause of Christ. Our new church year will begin the first Sunday in September.

Promotion Sunday

All of those who will be moving to new age levels in Sunday School will move up on September 6th. All of the newly elected teachers and officers will also assume their responsibilities on that same Sunday.

Men’s Fellowship - Our Men’s Fellowship will meet on Monday night August 31st.

Ladies Auxiliary - The Lakeside Ladies Auxiliary will meet on Tuesday night, September 1st.

AWANA/Discovery

Our Wednesday night AWANA and Discovery youth ministry will begin the fall semester on September 9th. We do have a few leadership positions that need to be filled before that time. We have a Cubbies Director but will need a Leader for that class. Every year we have young people who are saved as a result of the AWANA program. Be much in prayer for the year and that we will continue to be completely committed to this important task.

MEETING TODAY: After lunch today there will be an AWANA and Discovery workers meeting. All Directors, Leaders, Teachers and helpers are asked to attend this meeting.

Baptism Service

The church ordinance of baptism will be administered next Sunday evening, August 30th, for Brother Jed.

Singspiration & Fellowship

The service this evening will feature specials by our own people which will be followed by a church-wide pot luck meal. Practice your music, bring your cover dish for the fellowship and plan for a great time with the Lord and His people tonight.

New Tabernacle at Budd Creek

Lakeside Church would like to raise $10,000.00 during the next year for the Budd Creek Tabernacle Fund. Several fund raising efforts are already underway: The change jar in our vestibule has a $1,000.00 goal for this purpose. The rent a kid project may be done at any time during the year. (Our young people may be "rented" by our church members for chores at a rate of $10.00 per hour. See Scott Addison for details.) Of course, all the proceeds go into the Tabernacle Fund.

Another effort that is underway is for parents, grandparents or others interested adults to give a regular monthly offering. A monthly offering of $25.00 amounts to $300 in twelve months. If 30 families did this, it would raise $9,000.00 in a year!

Everything should go through the church. The church treasurer is keeping up with all that is given for the Tabernacle Fund. Your checks should be made out to Lakeside and designated on the memo line that it is for the Budd Creek Tabernacle Fund.

Please don’t forget to pray. Pray that God will bless the efforts of other churches that are also raising funds for the new tabernacle. Pray for Brother Paul and Sister Dianne Weatherford, who are responsible for the operation of the camp. Pray that souls would be saved as a result of the preaching of the gospel at Budd Creek Church Camp.

Mission News

Our New Liberty Missionary Baptist Mission in Beebe will be observing a formal "note burning" during the morning services today. Some members of our own Missionary Committee, who have been with this project from the start, will be participating.

Thank You for VBS - Thank you isn't near enough to all who helped make our VBS such a success. Thank you for all the hours of preparation and dedicated devotion with this year's powerful lesson. I hear all teachers did an outstanding presentation. We certainly could not have done without those who assisted with rooms, food, moving furniture, and the auditorium props. Our Lakeside team efforts are what makes these projects so enjoyable and, of course, the greatest rewards are those who accepted Jesus. May God continue to bless you and all our church family.

Sister Faye, Director

Ladies Auxiliary Cook Books

Advance sales for the Ladies Auxiliary cook books are being accepted. The books will be $12.00 each. You will find coupons on the vestibule table. Money for the cookbooks may be turned in to Sister Faye or Sister Brenda.

Sunday Morning John 4:19-24 08-23-09

The purpose of worship is to bring glory to God. Far too much of what is called worship is geared to satisfy the flesh and give glory to men. Referencing Jeremiah 9:23-24, Paul was emphatic that no glory is to go to men in worship, I Cor. 1:29-31 (see II Cor. 10:17, Gal. 6:14). Simple logic concludes that all worship is not accepted by the Lord.

True Worship

I. Troubled Worship of the Lost John 4:19-24

A. An Ethiopian’s attempt at worship (Acts 8:27)

1. He had no understanding of Scriptures (Acts 8:28)

2. He had no relationship with Jesus (Acts 8:35, Acts 4:12)

3. He went to worship lost & troubled but later saved

B. The Athenians ignorance in worship (Acts 17:23)

1. Only one God and one Savior (Isa 45:18, I Tim 2:5)

2. Repentance & faith required (Acts 17:30-31)

C. A Samaritan’s irrelevant worship (John 4:20-24)

1. They tried to worship God in their own way

2. Jesus said, "Ye worship ye know not what"

D. Attempts to worship God in a lost condition are futile

E. Although the flesh might be satisfied, the soul will not

II. True Worship I Cor. 14:40

A. Tabernacle glory reveals the Architect of true worship

1. Everything carefully placed for its purpose (Ex. 40:1-7)

2. All was according to the plan of God (Heb. 8:5)

3. After all was done, glory cloud filled it (Ex 40:34)

B. Temple glory revealed what was acceptable to God

1. Presence of God filled the temple (II Ch 7:1-2)

2. Sad day when glory departed (Ezk 11:23)

C. Church glory is still found in presence of God

1. Church filled with God’s presence (Acts 2:1-3)

2. Unto Him be glory in the church (Eph. 3:21)

3. God’s presence is the glory

III. Triumphant Worship Rev. 19:1-6

A. Spontaneous worship found throughout the Revelation

1. Alleluia chorus of the glorified saints (Rev. 19:1-6)

2. All about praising Jesus for who He is

B. Continuing glory given to God in heaven (Rev. 21:22-27)

Con. Two things required to achieve worship: Must be Clean & Close.

Many may not cleansed from sin nor close to God when they get to church but they should be by the time they leave.
